Barbecue (BBQ) Sauce Recipe
Texas-Style
Hot & Zesty
Sure! You can use store-bought barbecue (BBQ) sauce on your outdoor
dishes (some of them are quite tasty). But there's nothing like
combining the right spices, herbs, and ingredients, to make your
own "original" BBQ sauce. It adds a certain "personality" to your
cookout. Various regions across the country have their own style of
BBQ sauce. It all depends on what you're used to and what you like.
Personally, I like mine hot and zesty. Here's MY recipe. As with
all of my recipes, feel free to change it and make it YOURS!
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1 cup water
1/2 cup beer (domestic)
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablesoon hot red pepper sauce
3 or 4 jalepeno peppers
2 bay leaves
5 (or more) large cloves garlic, minced
1/2 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Salt and black pepper (to taste)
Briefly saute onions in the butter.
Combine all the ingredients (liquids first) and bring to a boil.
Simmer for approximately 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and strain.
